Street Art

Lakkos has an amazing history of creativity which we would like to show with street art. The art is always planned and permissions are given before we do anything. There is a big difference between graffiti and street art. http://www.herron.iupui.edu/blog/06042012/street-art-vs-graffiti
Most of the artist we are working with have had formal art training and concepts are planned in advance before the work is done.
The Lakkos project would like to look into making high quality art that is sympathetic and relevant to the area. Around the platia we have focused on the 1930s period.  Another group that has formed is 'The Lakkos Art Lab'. In October 2015 we started an open air gallery in the park in Lakkos (Pervola park is the traditional name). This space is dedicated to modern art and does not reflect the history of the area. Heraklion does not have a modern art museum so the artists have taken it on themselves to create this outdoor gallery. The group is new and exciting ideas are being planned for the future!
